Coaching Selection for 2009 Francophone Games


Boxing Canada is seeking application from interested individuals in a volunteer opportunity as Head Coach for 2009 Francophone Games in Bayreuth, Lebanon.

Reporting to Boxing Canada the Head Coach is responsible for the preparation of the 2009 Francophone Games Team in conjunction with the Technical Coordinator. The Head Coach also liaises with personal coaches to provide leadership in performance objectives for the 2009 Francophone Games.

Ideal candidate will have demonstrated superior coaching abilities and will hold the NCCP Certification at level 4 or 5. He or she understand boxing regulations and be willing to travel in Canada and abroad. The Coach must possess a strong track record as team builder and must also possess superior communications skills. Preference will be given to bilingual candidates (English and French).

The position is for and leading to the 2009 Francophone Games programs.

Applicants are asked to submit a resume highlighting relevant professional and volunteer experience, along with a covering letter (one page maximum) describing the reasons why he or she is well-suited for the position. Short-listed applicants will undergo a formal interview process.

Investors Group, Athletes Fund Bursary

In keeping with their commitment to amateur sport in Canada, Investors Group established an Amateur Athlete Bursary Fund for Canada's top amateur athletes in 2000. 

Working in partnership with AthletesCan, the Fund awards twenty bursaries of $5,000 to Canadian amateur athletes each year. The bursary selection committee is made of active and retired national team athletes and officials from Investors Group and AthletesCan.

This person reports to the Executive Director and contributes to the smooth, efficient and productive administration function of the National Office by carrying out duties in the following key responsibility ares: Bookkeeping, National Registration and by provinding general Administrative Assistance.

- Strong knowledge of Simply Accounting
- Strong organizational skills
- Bilingual in English and French - both oral and written (prefered)

Katy Dunn selected for the World Championships in Chicago

Katy Dunn has been selected to take part in the female boxing exhibition which will be held during the 2007 World's Men Senior Championships in Chicago.

Nominations from around the world were sent to AIBA to partake in this event. Kathy was selected as one of four athletes for the two exhibitions bouts.

Mr. Ron Whalley passed away

It is with sadness that we have to inform you that Mr. Ron Whalley passed away Wednesday, May 30,2007.

Ron devoted a big part of his life to the sport of Amateur boxing. Ron officiated and represented Boxing Canada at the 2000 Olympic games and other numerous international events. Ron was a former Board member of Boxing BC and the Executive Committee of Boxing Canada.

Ron's sense of humour will be missed by his family, friends and the Boxing community all over the world.

World Boxing Championships in Chicago

The International Boxing Association (AIBA) confirmed that the 2007 World Championships will be held in the U.S. city of Chicago from October 17 - November 1, 2007.

The 2007 World Championships, which also double as the opening qualification tournament for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, are expected to be the biggest ever with over 1,000 boxers and officials expected to attend.


Athletes CAN's 15th annual Forum!

The 2007 AthletesCan Forum will be held in Whiterose, Yukon from September 28 - September 30, 2007.

Now in its 15th year, the Forum is the largest and most inclusive gathering of Canada's national team athlete representatives outside of competition.

The Forum brings together Canada's high performance athletes and sport leaders to network with others, share ideas, learn about the sport system and develop leadership skills through interactive workshops, seminars and presentations.

WADA Proposes Major Whereabouts Program Changes

The Cabadian Centre for Ethics in Sports (CCES) would like to solicit the views of the Canadian sport community on proposed changes to the International Standard for testing (IST), many of which will have a major impact on high level Canadian athletes. Technical Coordinator Wanted

The Canadian Amateur Boxing Association (Boxing Canada) is seeking a dynamic, energetic team player to oversee the planning, administration and execution of Boxing Canada National programs. The individual also requires a solid understanding of the amateur community and voluntary sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the administrative activities associated with High Performance including but not limited to the National Team, Official and Coaching programs.
  • Coordinate the National team training camps and international competitions.
  • Coordinate the activities of the National teams program including the Athlete Assessment and Testing Program, Talent Identification, Special Education for Elite Coaches and Apprenticeship programs.
  • Monitor the performance objectives and communicate this information to the athletes and personal Coaches.
  • Ensure that technical information is accurate and distribute to the membership.

Qualifications:

  • University or College degree in sport administration, business administration or related employment experience.
  • An excellent understanding of the Canadian sport system and the sport of Boxing in Canada.
  • The ability to communicate effectively in English and French (highly desirable).
  • Responsible and accountable

Salary Range:
$35,000 to $45,000 per year, plus staff benefits package.

Boxing Canada is seeking a National Coach for its High Performance Team.

Reporting to the Canadian Amateur Boxing Association (CABA) Executive Committee and Vice-President, Technical, the National Coach is responsible for the implementation of the Athlete Development Programs in conjunction with CABA. He/she advise the Executive Director in annual and multi-year plans and provide hands-on coaching at National and International competitions. The National Coach also liaise with personal coaches to provide leadership in performance objectives.

Ideal candidate will have demonstrated superior coaching abilities and will hold the NCCP Certification at level 4 or 5 (level 3 will be considered if registered for level 4). He or she understand boxing regulations and be willing to travel in Canada and abroad. The Coach must possess a strong track record as team builder and must also possess superior communications skills. Preference will be given to bilingual candidates (English and French).

This position is full-time, on a contractual basis. Initial term for contract is 3 years (Mai 2006 to March 2009). This position is financially supported by Sport Canada.

Canadian Olympic Committee Mourns Death of Executive Director

TORONTO, October 22, 2005 - It is with profound sadness that the Canadian Olympic Committee wishes to advise the Canadian sport community and our many partners and friends of the death last night of Mark Lowry, the COC's Executive Director of Sport. Lowry, 51, passed away in his sleep at his home in Ottawa following a valiant, two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Ray Russell appointed as Chief Official for Boxing Canada

The Executive Committee of Boxing Canada appointed Mr. Ray Russell from Nova Scotia as the new Chief Official and Mr. Pierre Chiasson from Quebec as Vice-President for a period of two years.


Amateur Boxing Loses Jimmy MacInnis

Jimmy MacInnis, long-time member and leader in the Canadian Amateur Boxing Association (CABA), died after a long battle with cancer at the age of 69 on August 6, 2005. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 10, at 2:00 PM at the Warden United Church in Nova Scotia.

Jimmy MacInnis was involved in boxing from the grassroots level to the international level. Jimmy was instrumental in building up amateur boxing in Nova Scotia and Canada and was inducted into the Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame as builder in 1983 and is a life member of CABA

Jimmy was a director of CABA for 12 years and its President for ten years (1989 - 1999), he was the Team Manager for the Canadian National Boxing Team at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.

Jimmy dedicated his life to the sport of amateur boxing in Canada and worldwide. His priority was to work hard for the enhancement of amateur boxing, and for the good and welfare of boxers.

Jimmy will be long remembered, and missed by family, friends and the boxing community.


News July 28, 2005 - Norris Petit passed away

Boxing Canada was saddened to hear that Norris Petit passed away.

Norris Petit was a long time coach with the Saskatoon Aboriginal Youth Club. Norris is well known in the coaching circles throughout Canada, and his boxers have represented Saskatchewan at the Canadian National Championships and the Canada Winter Games on numerous occasions.


Monday, July 11, 2005

Today RBC Financial Group launched the 2005-2006 RBC Olympians Program. The program will employee current and past Olympic and Paralympic athletes on flexible work arrangements to allow for their training and competition needs. The athletes will act as community ambassadors, sharing their past experiences and current Olympic dreams with schools, community groups and RBC clients and employees. In addition to their community outreach role, the athletes will work in various departments within RBC gaining valuable work experience to help prepare for their lives after competition.
